Gold Winning Performance for Wheeler Julian Long
West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club members enjoyed some tremendous success in recent triathlons, stand out performance came from Julian Long who led the strong contingent of Wheelers contesting the Wattisham Triathlon on Sunday.
Consisting of a 300m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run, Julian’s times of 6min 49secs, 34:08 and 18:27 for an overall time of 00:59:24 was rewarded with 1st place.
Other Wheelers’ results were as follows:
Darren Sharman 11th 1:01:23 (6:11, 34:32, 20:39); Esther Colman 22nd 1:03:11 (4:55, 37:25, 20:49); Julian Colman 62nd 1:08:25 (7:31, 38:56, 21:57); David Leaver 86th 1:11:34 (8:36, 39:03, 25:53); Lyndon Houston 91st 1:12:08 (7:21, 40:37, 24;09); Conrad Burgess 143rd 1:16:50 (5:38, 43:23, 27:48); Stephen Bull 156th 1:18:32 (7:24, 42:03, 29:03); Jill Wilshaw 164th 1:19:21 (8:14, 45:22, 25:44); Dawn DaMarco 165th 1:19:22 (7:51, 44:32, 26:57).
Fritton Lake was the venue for the Fritton Lake Sprint triathlon on Saturday, a 750m swim followed by a 20km bike ride and finished by a 5km run.
Leading home the Wheelers ladies duo in 35th position and 2nd lady was Hannah McInroy Naylor in 1:15:53 (13:47, T1 2:02, 37:39, T2 00:29, 21:55) followed by Sharon Perry 3rd lady and 47th in 1:17:18 (11:49, T1 1:45, 40:20, T2 00:28 23:04).
The lake also hosted Sunday’s Olympic distance triathlon, a 1500m swim, 40Km bike ride and 10km run.
Keith Marra enjoyed his race and finished well in 2; 10:24 for 6th overall (24:47, T1 1:43, 1:04:43, T2 00:27, 38:42). Club mate Ray will be pleased with his time posted of 2:24:38 for 31st (30:20, T1 1:26, 1:10:04, T2 00:35, 41:34).
Cycle Racing Round Up
West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club members enjoyed a very busy and successful last 7 days in all competitions.
In time trialling Trish Goulden continues her impressive recent form with a personal best in Saturday’s API Metrow CC Zak Carr 25 mile memorial time trial, held on the Newmarket-A14-A11-Four Want Ways course posting 58:18 for 2nd lady and in doing so beat her own age category and personal records.
Ron Back (75) took part in the East District CA 25 mile time trial on a blustery Tilney High End-Wisbech A47 course, and posted an impressive 1:04:56
A windy and hilly course faced David Howes at the Chelmer CC 25 mile time trial at the weekend, and he reacted in fine style with a time of 1:06:31.
The Lotus closed circuit track at Hesset was the venue for the individual 11 mile time trials on Wednesday, held over 5 laps of the 2.2 mile circuit. Dale Sturman, ahead of his forthcoming marathon 24 hour time trial, posted a fine 23:46 for 3rd overall, one place behind was club mate Matthew Shingleton (24:30) with Paul Vickers 6th (24:52). Impressive riding saw Mandy Bunn finish 5th lady (28:54).
Wednesday also saw the first in the Suffolk Cycle Race Series held at Trinity park in Ipswich over a closed circuit just over one mile in length.
Club members raced in 3 groups, with Fabian Horrocks and Fraser Elsworth in the 20 minute U14/U16 age group race. Both raced well, with Fabian determinedly leading home the chasing group.
The 30 minute Go Race event for new racers featured Dermott O’Riordan who rode very well in the 36 strong field, however fellow first time racer Darren Baker felt the pace in an otherwise enjoyable debut.
The main event of the night was the 60 minute long Elite & Category 1,2,3 & 4 race split into 3 ability groups and which featured a good number of Wheelers.
Stand out performances came from Tom Smith and Andy Brinkley who managed to stay with the lead group throughout even when caught up by fast the E, 1 and 2 group. Further back the middle chasing group found Matt Denny, Steve Newman, Malcolm Borg, Matt Eaglen, Richard Stiff, Richard Leeming and Richard Sherman all in determined form. Junior Triathlon
Norwich First and Second for Charlie and Stuart.
Not to be outdone by their senior clubmates, West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club’s junior members thoroughly enjoyed the Norwich Junior triathlon on Sunday.
In the Tri Star 1 category (9 & 10 years 150m swim, 2km bike ride and 1200m run), Wheelers recorded a superb top 2 finishers with Charlie Knowler 1st in 14:09 (2:51, T1 00:38, 5:09, T2 00:18, 5:10) and Stuart Adam 2nd in 14:20 (3:00, T1 00:41, 5:09, T2 00:28, 5:00).
Both were well supported by club mates Thomas Verzijl 14th in 16:23 (3:13, 00:47, 5:30, 00:32, 6:19); Hugo Thornely 16th in 16:54 (3:25, 00:51, 6;40, 0:30, 5:26); George Possnet 21st in 17:42 (4:12, 00:55, 6:33, 00:24, 5:37); Thomas Curtis 24th in 18:04 (3:24, 00:56, 7:02, 00:31, 6:10).
In Tri Star 2 (11 & 12 years, 200m swim, 4km bike ride and 1800m run) first Wheeler home was Annalise Verzijl 25th in 26:26 (3:51, T1 00:50, 12:22, T2 00:27, 10:26) followed by Jennifer Adam 27th in 27:08 (4:05, T1 1:02, 12:22, T2 00:29, 9:08) and Kathleen Adam 32nd in 29:00 (4:06, T1 00:45, 13:08, T2 00:35, 10:23).
Competing in TriStar 3 (13 & 14 years, 300m swim, 6km bike and 2400m run) Johan Hasselder placed 11th in 32:12 (6:23, T1 00:41, 15:41, T2 00:19, 9:07) and Catherine McKeag 23rd in 38:00 (6:16, T1 00:45, 16:44, T2 00:21, 13:52).
In the Youth category (15 & 16 years, same distance as Tristar 3) Casey-Jo Maggs will be very pleased with 4th overall in 30:55 (4:19, T1 00:40, 13:49, T2 00:21, 11:44).
Grass Track 15th June 2014 Results
A great day of sport at West Suffolk Wheelers and Triathlon Club’s Grass Track at Fornham All Saints .
18 Senior riders, 32 juveniles and 7 youngsters on freewheel bikes.

Interclub TT - 19th June
Signing on for the Interclub 10 mile TT organised by CC Sudbury on the 19th June will be from 6-00 to 6-20 If anyone cannot make it or has a problems phone Brian Webber.

The club is running Evening Time Trial at Livermere on 19th June – for youth rider aged 12-16. A parent consent form can be download from the website

Cycle Club Sudbury Bildeston Audax rides, Saturday 26 July
Only 6 weeks now to Cycle Club Sudbury's next great audax rides, from Bildeston Sportsfield, Suffolk, on Saturday 26 July.
Three rides;
104k Bildeston Lanes audax; a very popular circular route on mainly traffic free quiet lanes.
168k 100 Miles of Suffolk Lanes audax; to the coast at Orford, via Stonham, Framlingham, and back via Wickham Market and Debenham; mainly on quiet lanes with little traffic -short bits of minor A and B roads.
209k Suffolk Lanes Extravaganza audax; the big one! Again to the coast at Orford, via Halesworth, and back via Framlingham. Quiet lanes again, plus the chance to tick off three castles during the day.
Good routes, route sheets and refreshments, as always with CCS. GPX tracks available. Book early to avoid disappointment!

The Race Programe may vary from week to week and only Youth Riders are catered for every week. Please see 2014 Calendar.
Field Sizes
The layout of the track allows us to run events concurrently – using two circuits each approximately 1 mile long. The maximum field sizes permitted will be:
- Regional C+ – 120
- Go Race – 50
- Youth Races – 40
- Entries are on a 1st come 1st served basis. (Only the Go Race has been oversubscribed just once)

Suffolk Cycle Race Series
Starts Wednesday Evening June 11 with races for Youths, Novices and regular racers of both genders and all categories.
This season the series is being sponsored by Maglia Rosso, Cycle Centre and Destination Café.
The venue is Trinity Park in Ipswich (Suffolk Show Ground) on a challenging course, different each week.
YOUTH U14/U16 6.50pm (20 mins)
GO RACE (NOVICES and CAT 4 adults) 6.51 (30 mins)
E1234 men* 7.30 (60 mins)
E1234 women 7.31 (40 mins)*usually run on a group handicap basis.
Dates are June 11, 18, 25, July 2, 9, 16 plus a full day of racing on Sunday July 12 with races for Cat 3 and 4 riders and all juveniles from U8 to U16.

Swimming
Tuesday 8.30 -9.30pm at Abbeycroft sports centre, coached session across three lanes to cater for all standards. Session starts promptly so please arrive for 8.15. £3.00 per session.
Monday 07.30 – 8.30pm Culford School, coached session joining the Bury Master swim club
£5 per session.
Go Ride
Go Ride starts Tuesday 22nd April, 6.30pm - 7.30pm at Club HQ, Priory School, Mount Road. Suitable for children aged 6 and above. All children need a bike and a helmet. £3 for 5 sessions or £15 for Junior membership.
Junior Triathlon
Tuesdays from 5-6pm at South Lee School, and Sundays in the pool at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre also 5-6pm.
Park Run
Every Saturday morning starting at 9am at Nowton Park IP29 5LU.
Free, weekly, 5K, timed run. The same distance as a sprint triathlon run.
