MTB: MSG Series Round 2, Codham Hall, 21 April 2013In complete contrast to last year's conditions, the circuit was hard and dry and sun block rather than umbrellas was the order of the day for spectators. There were 7 WSW&T members competing. In the Under 12 Boys, Matthew Whitwell competing in his first race of the season finished 20th. Robin Lines finished 13th in the Youth Male race despite having to ride most of the race without a rear brake after suffering a mechanical with the hydraulic cylinder. Rhys Holland-Jones made a promising debut in XC mountain biking finishing 6th in the Juvenile category. In the afternoon session, Paul Watson recorded the club's best result finishing 6th in a strong Grand Veterans field. Malcolm Macfarlane finished 23rd in the same race. In the Masters race, Malcolm Borg managed to make 12th having to come back from a first lap puncture. In the Veteran's race, Darren Davis (2nd Claim) started well but retired on lap 3 whilst contesting a top 10 placing. We don't have any further information on the cause of his retirement.

Hog Hill GP National League Round 1.There was a hard days racing and a step up in class for the club's younger members today as the National League made its way to Hog Hill. In the under 8s Victoria Asker did well to secure second place in a tough race with some of the best girls in the country in attendance. In the Under 12s race Fraser Elsworth and Sam Asker were competing for the Wheelers, A random draw for places saw Sam start from the back of the field and due to an accident directly in front of him at the start he never made it into the relative shelter of the bunch and spent the race chasing them down. Fraser, starting at the front of the field avoided the chaos and managed to stay with the bunch for over half of the race getting dropped towards the end as the paced built. In the under 14s Matt put in some sterling work and showed good speed up the hills, but the quality was such that he was never going to be in contention and he retired towards the end of the race after being lapped by the leaders. To sum up, some highs and lows today, some valuable lessons learnt but they are all improving and most importantly HAVING FUN ON A BIKE! Last Updated (Monday, 10 June 2013 21:02) |
