FRITTON LAKE SWIM CENTRE NEWSLETTER – JULY 2011

Dear All

Up Coming Events
Just a reminder about a number of events coming up over the next month or so:

17th July – North Walsham “Victory” Triathlon. This is the very first “Victory” triathlon and will be held at the Victory Swimming and Fitness Centre in North Walsham. This is being put on by Active Outdoor Sport and is an ideal event for novices and a great introduction to triathlon with a 300m pool swim, 17km bike and 3km run. Enter online via Entry Central at www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100858 or complete and return the attached entry form.

28th July – Fritton Lake Mid week Aquathlon. This is the third mid-week aquathlon of the season. If you’ve not done one of these before then come and give it a go – fast and furious racing in a great atmosphere. Enter online via Entry Central at www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100471 or complete and return the attached entry form.

14th August - Sea Palling Sea Swim. A 1-mile swim alongside the reefs at one of Norfolk’s Blue Flag beaches. Still considered by many to be their most enjoyable event last year. I can’t guarantee the same conditions as last year but it’s still a great challenge. Once again this event will be supported by the local RNLI Beach Lifeguards so you will be in good hands. Enter online via Entry Central at www.entrycentral.com/index.php?raceID=100225 or complete and return the attached entry form.

Long Distance Triathlons

Ironman Wales: If you are interested in doing an Ironman race this year then why not consider IRONMAN WALES on the 11th September. The RNLI have a July special offer on Ironman Wales triathlon places with a limited amount of places at the reduced entry cost of £200 - if you pledge £100 sponsorship to their volunteer lifeboat crews. This is a massive saving of £172 on the official entry price of £372! To register and take advantage of this special offer, please visit www.rnli.org.uk/events to find the 'Ironman Wales RNLI July Offer' or call the RNLI events team on 0121 780 6960.

Your Fritton Lake team are also looking at putting on a pilot middle distance/ half ironman event later this year – more details to follow.

Wetsuits

Need a new swimming wetsuit then let us know. We are one of the few places where you can try out your suit before buying and our prices are just as competitive as online.

All the best

British Gas Great East Open Water Swim, Alton Water

Everybody had a degree of nerves, some more than most.  Marc Verzijl, one of our most competent swimmers (1 mile - 2nd in his ‘wave’ and 4th in his age group) admitted he had never done open water in a wet suit before – baptism of fire, fun getting it on and off isn’t it Marc?

Congratulations Julia Jepson

Although not competing under 'Wheelers' colours this time around a special congrats to Julia Jepson who was also racing in the Dambuster.  Julia crossed the finish line in 2:34:23, 355th overall and a fantastic 3rd in age group and took away a comemorative silver platter, bronze medal and most importantly a bottle of red wine not to mention age group honours.  Julia will be representing her GB age group at the ETU Triathlon Championships in Eilat in 2012.
