Road Racing Round-up Aug - 8th Aug
A very warm and decidedly windy day saw West Suffolk Wheeler & Triathlon Club member Jake Towler back in action on Sunday at the Strada Sport RT Road Race. Held over 50 hot, hilly and energy sapping miles around the race HQ at Saxlingham Nethergate south of Norwich, Jake continues to impress and improve on a weekly basis.
In a very strong field of 3rd and 4th category riders, Jake’s efforts were well rewarded with an impressive 9th spot which shows all the hallmarks of future road racing success.
Two more senior club riders, Richard Carrington (22nd) and Malcolm Borg (26th) braved the course and will take much from their efforts.
Meanwhile, the club’s successful summer evening time trial series draws to an all too soon close with riders taking on the hilly Higham 10 mile course on Thursday.
Another very breezy and wet evening awaited, although time trial stalwarts Paul Vickers (23:52); Paul Rooke (24:49) and Richard Farrow (24:59) lead the way with sights firmly set on the end of season trophy haul.
Other finishers were Pip Moore (4/26:52); Andy Ward (5/26:57); Viv Smith (6/27:18); Clement Wallace (U18/7/27:35); David Young (8/27:53); Jack Stafford (Cilento Bike/9/28:19); Zoila Gilham-Fernandez (10/28:50); Steve Rue (11/29:04); Steve Newman (12/29:38); Justin Wallace (13/30:53); Robin lines (U18/14/33:28); Dick Lines (15/36:09).

Cycling Round-up - 1st August 2016
A gutsy performance saw 18 year old West Suffolk Wheeler and Triathlon Club rider Jake Towler in top form at Sunday’s Diss & District CC’s Hopton Road Race.
Held as part of the Eastern Road Racing League, and starting at Hopton, the course took in over 65 miles of rolling north Suffolk roadways. Jake stayed in contact throughout with the lead group and digging deep into reserves held on for a very impressive 33rd spot in a field of very experienced racers.
Time Trial Round-up - 17th July 2016
West Suffolk Wheelers & Triathlon Club rider Ron Back returned to his time trialling best, storming to a new national age category record at the recent CC Breckland Open 15 mile time trial on the B15/1 course between Attleborough and Browick on 6th July. Ron’s time of 37:45 belied his 77 years and showed he can still hold his own over the distance. Club mates Paul Vickers (31:10) and Alan Hale (36:22) also put in the effort.
